Sample material: acceleration around a bend

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity. Velocity is a vector: it has both magnitude and direction. When a vehicle goes around a bend at constant speed, the direction of its velocity changes. It is therefore accelerating.

Example: A car goes around a bend at constant speed. Its speed stays the same, but its direction of motion changes. Its velocity therefore changes, so it is accelerating.
